What is my birthstone?

Understanding the Allure of Birthstones:

The captivating allure of gemstones has been enthralling humanity for centuries, with their scintillating colours and unique formations. Among the myriad of gemstone varieties, birthstones hold a distinct and cherished place. Birthstones are specific gemstones that are associated with each month of the year. People can wear the gemstone of their birth month as it offers an opportunity for something unique to you! What is my own birthstone, for example? My (Aaron) birthstone is Emerald (May), and I really enjoy wearing it as it's something that's distinctive to me. If your birth month falls in April, the famous diamond is your birthstone. For those born in June, you own the lustrous pearl. October is important to Australians as it features the unique and fiery Opal. Our 'Sovereign' ring features a golden sword thrust within a mysterious black diamond.

Finding Your Stone: How do I know what my birthstone is?

Your birthstone is determined by the month in which you were born. Each month is linked to a specific gemstone that holds certain properties and attributes. What colour would my birthstone be? The various stones cover every colour of the rainbow. To find your birthstone, simply identify your birth month in the below table and discover the gemstone that applies. What's my birthstone in Australia? For those residing in Australia, birthstones adhere to the same pattern as in other parts of the world.

January: Garnet
February: Amethyst
March: Aquamarine
April: Diamond
May: Emerald
June: Pearl, Alexandrite
July: Ruby
August: Peridot, Spinel
September: Sapphire
October: Opal, Tourmaline
November: Topaz, Citrine
December: Turquoise, Zircon, Tanzanite

Breaking Tradition: Can You Wear a Different Birthstone?

What is my birthstone if I don't like my own? While your birthstone is traditionally tied to your birth month, there's no rule against embracing other gemstones. Many individuals choose to wear different birthstones or gemstones that hold personal significance. Whether it's the crystal blue of Aquamarine or the lustre of pearls, your jewellery choices can reflect your unique style and preferences.

The Evolution of Birthstones:

The concept of birthstones has endured the test of time, but the popularity of specific gemstones can vary due to cultural shifts and trends. What is my birthstone if I was born 100 years ago? While the core meaning and associations of birthstones remain consistent, changes might occur based on factors like newfound gemstone sources, shifts in demand, or evolving aesthetic preferences. While trends in fashion come and go, birthstones remain a timeless choice. Whether incorporated into minimalist designs or bold statement pieces, birthstones add a touch of sophistication to any ensemble. For example, the modern birthstone for October is Opal, which we feature in our popular 'Spaced Out' pendant.

Exploring Luxury: The Pinnacle of Birthstones

The value of a birthstone fluctuates significantly based on factors such as rarity, clarity, colour, and carat weight. Their rarity contributes significantly to their elevated market price. While diamonds historically held the title of the most expensive birthstone due to their unparalleled brilliance and enduring worth, others like emeralds, rubies, and sapphires also command high prices, owing to their unique attributes. Overall, the most valuable birthstones are natural Diamonds (associated with April) and Sapphires (linked to September). We set a beautiful blue Sapphire in our 'Explorer' ring, within a raw silver signet ring.

Could what my birthstone is be considered 'low grade'? I firmly believe that there are no 'better' or 'worse' stones. Each one is handcrafted by nature and is particular and individual in its own way.

Embracing Dual Birthstones:

Certain individuals have the privilege of boasting two birthstones. For example, August birthstones are Topaz and Citrine. Basically, if you're in one of these months, then lucky you! While the conventional birthstone is determined by one's birth month, an alternative can sometimes be assigned, based on specific cultural interpretations. However, we believe that whatever my birthstone is, each one is unique and special in its own way!
