The First Game refers to the historic chess match played aboard the Soyuz 9 spacecraft between the cosmonauts onboard and ground control on Earth.
In June 1970, Cosmonauts Viktor Patsayev & Anatoly Karpov engaged in the first game of extraterrestrial chess against ground control using telephone signals. This historic match marked one of the earliest instances of recreational activities being conducted during the early days of human spaceflight.
This pendant is set with Alexandrite, the colour-changing birthstone of June, transitioning from green during the day to red under UV light. Appropriately, this rare gem was first discovered in the Ural Mountains of Russia in 1830, exactly 140 years before the spaceflight.
