TIDE expresses the majesty and raw ferocity of the ocean - the intense and dramatic composition of the great wave and its contrast with a serene Mount Fuji is the most iconic representation of Japanese art and culture. Set amongst the waves is the June birthstone, a white or black pearl.
The Great Wave of Kanagawa was created by artist Katsushika Hokusai in 1831. Hokusai was a master of ukiyo-e, a form of Japanese woodblock printing that was popular during the Edo period (1603-1867). The Great Wave was actually a part of his Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji series, and is one of many different depictions of the mountain from various perspectives.
